What is Therapeutic Day Treatment?
Succor Behavioral Services Therapeutic Day Treatment (TDT) Program provides behavioral interventions combined with educational support and therapeutic treatment. Students receive assistance from Succor’s staff in the classroom throughout the day, to recognize and practice appropriate behaviors within the school environment. Each student interacts with a Behavioral Health Specialist, Counselor, and a Site Coordinator in support of their treatment goals.
How do I participate? Referrals to the program come primarily from school administrators, teachers, guidance counselors, and school affiliated social workers. Other sources of referral to the program may include mental health counseling agencies, Department of Social Services, or the Department of Juvenile Justice. TDT services are potentially covered by Medicaid for Medicaid members, based on eligibility.
Families that feel that their child may be eligible for Succor’s TDT Program or Schools that are interested in collaborating with Succor to provide TDT Services:

Criteria: Individuals shall meet at least two of the following:

Have difficulty in establishing or maintaining normal interpersonal relationships to such a degree that they are at risk of hospitalization or out-of-home placement because of conflicts with family or community.

Exhibit such inappropriate behavior that documented, repeated interventions by the mental health, social services or judicial system is or has been necessary.

Exhibit difficulty in cognitive ability such that they are unable to recognize personal danger or recognize significantly inappropriate social behavior.
Therapeutic day treatment is appropriate for children and adolescents who meet at least one of the following:

The individual must require year-round treatment in order to sustain behavior or emotional gains.

The individual’s behavior and emotional problems are so severe they cannot be handled in self-contained or resource emotionally disturbed classrooms without programming to supplement the school day or school year.

The individual would otherwise be placed on homebound instruction because of severe emotional/behavior problems that interfere with learning.

The individual must (i) have deficits in social skills, peer relations or dealing with authority; (ii) are hyperactive; (iii) have poor impulse control; (iv) are extremely depressed or marginally connected with reality.
The individual is placed or pending placement in a preschool enrichment and/or early intervention program but the individual's emotional/behavioral problems are so severe that it is documented that they cannot function or be admitted in these programs without TDT services.
Who is the staff? Succor Behavioral Services Therapeutic Day Treatment Program staff includes bachelor and master’s level Qualified Mental Health Professionals within each school served. Staff provides strength-based behavioral modification, cognitive behavioral interventions and incentive based programs. Each school is clinically supervised by a licensed or license-eligible clinician providing assessments, individual and group counseling and crisis support as needed.

How does the program work?

The TDT program operates within the public schools in accordance with the school calendar.

TDT staff is available at the school site beginning 30 minutes prior to the scheduled school day, and 30 minutes following dismissal.

SUCCOR’s TDT staff work closely with school staff throughout each day to provide support in students areas of need.

Behavioral Health Specialists and Site Coordinators intervene daily in the classroom to provide behavior modification, as well as psychosocial and pro-social therapeutic groups.

Student progress is measured through a level-system that tracks behavioral improvements daily, weekly and monthly.

Care Coordination services link students and families to community-based services and resources as needed.

Counselors provide assessments, crisis support and individual counseling to those deemed appropriate.

Students are re-evaluated in 3-month intervals to determine their readiness to sustain independent positive behaviors within the school setting.

SUCCOR’s TDT program offers a 9-week Summer Program that runs in conjunction with the summer school program. The Summer Program provides on going individualized therapeutic treatment planning, psycho-social skills training groups, and therapeutic recreational and community-based experiences to enhance pro-social behaviors.

SUCCOR provides structured therapeutic and recreational community outings during winter and spring breaks.
